  • Judge Faruqui did the right thing by gently & firmly coaxing a woman who does not believe in the system to play by the rules of the system. If that deference isn't always extended to all other defendants it doesn't really seem like it's *his* fault. https://t.co/N76HSiKGpc
FWIW, a lot of people are complaining about the deference that Magistrate Judge Faruqui showed to Pauline Bauer, who invoked sovereign citizen rights. But remember--he has to treat her as innocent and has to respect both her right to counsel and her right to defend herself. https://t.co/q6xkJvA51g

  • Judge Faruqui was *this* close from handing the Bauer case off the the district judge, Trevor McFadden...

  • Judge Faruqui forgot to arraign Bauer and now he has to do it. She proclaims her innocence but refuses to enter a formal plea of not guilty and moreover (as is her right) she's making Faruqui go through the typically waived process of reading the entire indictment aloud.

  • Just before they adjourn, the prosecutor finally brings up the sovereign citizen issue saying the government will have to deal with the subject if she tries at some point to litigate her status.

  • Judge Faruqui did it. It took three hearings spread over two days but he got J6 sovereign citizen defendant Pauline Bauer to agree to conditions...that will set her free pretrial. (He waived the signature requirement.) So ends Ms. Bauer's "divine special appearance" in court.

  • Judge Faruqui is reallllly going out of his way to help self-avowed sovereign citizen Pauline Bauer sign her conditions of release. She's repping herself and he's now joined her in a virtual "break out" room off-air to assist her w/an interview with pretrial services.

  • It's hard to hear Bauer through the jail audio system...But she seems to be agreeing to some of Judge Faruqui's conditions.

  • Bauer is back. She turned down the services of the stand by counsel who filed the notice on her behalf. Judge Faruqui has picked up where he left off yesterday, trying to get Bauer to agree to conditions of release even if she doesn't recognize the jurisdiction of his court...

  • As we wait to see if Pauline Bauer, the sovereign citizen J6 rioter who was jailed yesterday for contempt after saying was making a "divine special appearance", is returning to court, her lawyer files a notice explaining what was in the 37-pager she wanted to read aloud yesterday https://t.co/Ulna47cs7R

  • In his continuing bid to get Jacob Chansley, aka the Q Shaman, out of jail, lawyer Al Watkins says his client has become the "Nike Swoosh" of Jan. 6--which is to say, the "de facto service mark" for the Capitol Hill riot. https://t.co/QqP3g7BYSL

  • According to his lawyer, Capitol rioter Doug Jensen was so convinced that the Q-Anon "storm" was coming that when the FBI interviewed him after J6, he asked the agents if "the arrests had taken place yet." https://t.co/JzUT7C1vJR

  • Looks like Pauline Bauer will be back tomorrow after a night in jail. Judge Faruqui said he will try to get her to abide by her conditions of release--against her own objections--so that he can let her go and move the case along.

  • Judge Faruqui, bless his soul, is asking the pre-trial service guy if he's ever dealt w/a sovereign citizen before--in a way that allows them to maintain their beliefs. The PTS guy says, uh, no.

  • Judge Faruqui is suggesting she get through this hearing and take up any objections with the district judge who will inherit her case. He's trying. Bauer gives him the silent treatment, no response. Long pause... Remanded back to custody. Twice in one day.

  • Judge Faruqui wants to see, again, if he and Bauer, who's representing herself, can calmly discuss her conditions of release. "I want to work those things out," he says, offhandedly mentioning that this conversation takes place under Article III of the Constitution.

  • After being detained for contempt, Pauline Bauer, the Capitol Hill rioter & sovereign citizen, is back before DC Judge Zia Faruqui. When last we saw Bauer she was telling the court she was a "free living soul & woman" making a "divine special appearance." Let's see how it goes.

  • Now Bauer is back to insisting that she is absolutely going to read her 37-page statement. Faruqui says it's not going to happen & she risks being detained. "You have the keys to your own jail cell," Faruqui says.
