Kalief Browder allegedly stole a backpack at 16, spent 3 yrs at Riker's Island without trial.
Riley Williams stole a laptop from Speaker Pelosi's office and tried selling it the Russians. She was released to her mother

Trump lost the popular vote by millions & yet the post-election discussion never centered on his obligation to acknowledge majority will.
Biden won popular vote by millions & b/c of high Black turnout & yet the convo is about how he needs to compromise.
See how that works?
Taiwan’s ties with the United States are off to a strong start under President Biden’s government, after the island’s de facto ambassador was officially invited to attend the presidential inauguration for the first time https://t.co/jvlYyopwO6https://t.co/XKrmi1mspu
A major part of the neoliberal bipartisan establishment’s “get back to normal” narrative involves pretending the country wasn’t in upheaval until Trump took office— which again is about ignoring how the policies of the traditional establishment contributed to the turmoil.
What ultimately made the Trump era disruptive to the bipartisan establishment wasn’t racism or violence—the establishment upholds both & he still enjoys support from the majority of Republicans and white voters—but that there was no veneer of civility. 5/
Now that Trump has left those who remain in power in DC are trying to re-establish what they had pre-Trump, except they are in a weakened state b/c figures like McConnell—the GOP side of the establishment—don’t necessarily control the GOP party base.
But part of what happened with the Trump era is it exposed structural issues & corruption that long preceded Trumpism as well as the ugly face of racism which was always there but often downplayed by the bipartisan establishment. Trumpism weakened the traditional establishment.
The neoliberal establishment is still fundamentally invested in the police state, militarism, structural racism & neoliberal economic policies which involve using tax $ to fund private enterprise while divesting from public services. They oppose Trump but not as much as leftism.
Part of the PR campaign for this effort includes propaganda about “the peaceful transition of power” as represented by the camaraderie among the Clintons, Bushes & Obamas. The idea is that we “get back to the normal” which Trump disrupted w/o real analysis of how we got Trump.
...Now that traditional neoliberal political establishment seeks to re-establish its power (aka “unify” & “returning to normalcy”) in the wake of Trump while remaining in willful denial about the failures of neoliberal policy & its direct connection to systemic racism & fascism.
For folks who are confused about what they witnessed today (or past ~40 yrs) the policies of the neoliberal bipartisan establishment (incl Reagan-Obama eras) gave rise to a fascist movement led by Trump which nearly overthrew the traditional neoliberal gov’t...
Every time y’all see the Bushes, Clintons & Obamas publicly displaying their friendship as the club of former presidents, it’s part of the desperate PR attempt to hold the traditional neoliberal establishment together in the aftermath of Trump
Whew. I know folks are tired but I’m over here thinking about how we can not allow the GOP to retake the Senate or the House in 2022. And we have to fight them in every local election too. The fight is not over. We have to keep beating them back like a bushfire right now.
Two weeks ago, the Capitol was stormed by white supremacist thugs. Today, the Capitol was honored by Joe Biden's calls for unity and justice. There is no center between the two, no compromise, no middle-ground.
Donald J. Trump is no longer the President of the United States.
He should be treated as though he never was. No $200,000 pension. No million-dollar travel budget. No national security briefings. No respect.
At 22 years old, Amanda Gorman is the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history. She joined a small group of poets who have been recruited to help mark a presidential inauguration, among them Robert Frost, Maya Angelou and Miller Williams. https://t.co/D5bv2nedXT
