At our hearing earlier this month on police accountability, the NYPD failed to have an answer on when the family of Delrawn Small can expect the smallest amount of progress toward justice.
The mayor says maybe next week. No one's holding their breath.
Delrawn Small's family has been waiting 5 yrs for justice. The CCRB sent disciplinary charges to NYPD months ago, but the NYPD has failed to serve them. His family testified this morning AT A HEARING ABT POLICE ACCOUNTABILITY. And the NYPD had no answer as to why. @changethenypdhttps://t.co/DtOD4Tk5Xt
In a meaningless effort at reform on Friday, Mayor de Blasio heralded a new NYPD "disciplinary matrix."
The Commissioner & Chief Monahan can ignore it as they please.
Here's what @changethenypd had to say about it:
James cites NYPD Chief Monahan as being personally involved during sweeps where cops wound up beating & wrongfully arresting dozens of protesters who were later released.
Is it any wonder they keep beating & wrongfully arresting protestors?
His podcast, School Colors by @BklynDeep, is a good listen today to ground us in the history and tensions of the Black freedom struggle here in Brooklyn.
If you listened to Nice White Parents, this is a must listen.
Biden Admin has an opp'y to restore basic labor protections to the people who deliver our food and drive for Uber & Lyft. Gig companies will spend big to stop it. But we don't need to abide a business model built on exploitation. @veenadubal@JulietSchorhttps://t.co/Js7JBAVthe
Lots to do to save & expand public transit, combat climate change, make our streets safer & our neighborhoods more livable, advance environmental justice, and yes, go national in the fight against reckless driving.
A thread of #MLK speeches and sermons in which he speaks truth to power, shares about his philosophy of nonviolence, and expounds on issues of injustice and what our righteous, rigorous response should be. Relevant. Revelatory. Revolutionary. #MLKDay#BelovedCommunityhttps://t.co/lqyNbBPiym
City Councilman @bradlander’s idea for a public land bank to stop private equity from vulturing all of NYC's real estate and help small businesses survive gets a shoutout in my interview with @stacyfmitchell in today’s newsletter. https://t.co/WUYve3XNJy
Every Republican calling for “healing” should pledge to immediately support the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act which would be the strongest protection against *actual* voter suppression in this country’s history. A no-brainer if this was about the integrity of our elections.
